Located in Gexianshan Town, Qianshan County, Shangrao City, Jiangxi Province, the Gexian Village Resort sits at the foot of Mount Gexian—renowned as the "Number One Mountain of Spiritual Treasures in China." Legend holds that this is the site where Ge Xuan, one of the four great Taoist masters of the Eastern Han Dynasty, ascended to immortality. With a total investment exceeding 1.569 billion yuan and covering an area of 650 mu, the resort features a core complex of architecture in the style of the Han and Tang dynasties, effectively bringing the landscapes depicted in ancient paintings into reality.
What should the focus be on?
Zhongmiao Pavilion: The scenic area's centerpiece landmark—a three-story ancient wooden structure. Visitors can ascend the pavilion during the day for a panoramic view of the entire village, and the reflection of the building in the lake creates a classic photo opportunity.
Lingbao Fairy Street: An ancient-style street adorned with red lanterns; once the lights come on at dusk, it resembles the world of Spirited Away.
"Dust-Cleansing Gate": A circular doorway paired with timed misting effects creates an ethereal, cloud-like atmosphere—an ideal spot for capturing stunning, otherworldly photos.(The water mist operates intermittently; you may need to wait a moment if you arrive when it is off.)
Tianjing Terrace (Summit): After taking the cable car to the top, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the entire Gexian Village. In good weather, it offers sights of the sea of clouds and the sunset, making it a prime spot for sightseeing and offering prayers.

How to get there
High-speed rail (recommended): Take the train to Shangrao Station. Upon exiting, walk to the adjacent East Bus Station and board the direct shuttle bus to the scenic area; the fare is approximately 30 yuan per person, and the journey takes about 1.5 hours. Services are frequent, with increased frequency during public holidays.
By Air: You can fly to Sanqingshan Airport, located approximately 50 kilometers from the scenic area; a taxi ride takes about 40–60 minutes. Alternatively, chartered car services are available for transfers.

For families: The park features flat terrain with minimal inclines and offers free sightseeing shuttles; the nighttime performances—including light shows, water screen movies, and fireworks—are highly appealing to children.
For couples or friends on a short trip: Ideal for a relaxed 2-day, 1-night getaway—spend the day taking photos and strolling around, and the evening enjoying performances and local snacks; it offers great value for money.
For Taoist culture enthusiasts: Mount Gexian is a renowned Taoist mountain. Visitors can pray for blessings and enjoy a vegetarian meal at the Gexian Temple at the summit; the site is easily accessible via cable car and offers a rich cultural experience.
Less suitable for: tourists seeking a hiking experience amidst natural landscapes (Gexian Village primarily features a man-made district designed in an ancient style); and those sensitive to a commercialized atmosphere.
Pitfalls to Avoid and Important Considerations
The cable car has periods of closure. It undergoes an annual self-inspection in mid-March each year. It was closed from noon on March 16th to March 17th, 2026. Please check the official website for updates before traveling.
It gets crowded during the night tour, so stake out your spot early. The stretch from Zhongmiao Pavilion to Star Plaza becomes so packed at night that it is hard to even move; for popular performances, arrive at least half an hour in advance.
The mountain road has many curves, so bring motion sickness medication. The route from Shangrao Station to the scenic area involves many twists and turns; if you are prone to motion sickness, be sure to prepare medication in advance.
Book your accommodation in advance. Popular room types sell out quickly on weekends and holidays, so be sure to book ahead.
