Overview
The Meng Huan Silver Pagoda, situated atop Leiya Rang Mountain in Mangshi, faces the Meng Huan Golden Pagoda across the mountain. It is a pure white Theravada Buddhist pagoda, 66 meters high and 46 meters in diameter, composed of 80 smaller pagodas, with its spire crafted from exquisite Dai silver. The scenic area is open from 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM (last entry at 10:00 PM). The best time to visit is after 4:00 PM, allowing you to simultaneously admire the pagoda during the day, the golden glow of sunset, and the night view after the lights come on around 7:00 PM. A simple visit takes approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour, while photography can take 1-3 hours.
How to Get There
Meng Huan Silver Pagoda is located at No. 58 Xianchi Road, Mangshi City, Dehong Prefecture, Yunnan Province, about 3 kilometers from downtown Mangshi and about 10 kilometers from Mangshi International Airport. There is no direct public transportation to the scenic area; the most convenient way to get there is by taxi, which takes about 10-15 minutes and costs approximately 10-20 yuan from the city center. Alternatively, you can rent an electric scooter to ride up the mountain. For those driving, simply navigate to "Meng Huan Silver Pagoda"; parking is available at the scenic area. It is recommended to first visit the pagoda and take photos of the daytime scenery, then go to the viewing platform to wait for the sunset and the lights to illuminate the pagoda. Popular photo spots within the scenic area include the Sky Mirror, the Instagram-worthy Moon, and the Sky Staircase.
What to Expect
There are two routes to the top of the mountain: the stairs on the right take about 10-15 minutes to reach the summit, while the sightseeing bus route is on the left. A round trip by sightseeing bus costs 10 yuan per person, saving you energy. Restrooms are available within the scenic area, and there are viewing platforms halfway up and at the summit. Around the scenic area, there are food stalls and souvenir shops where you can rent Dai ethnic costumes for photos (approximately 50-100 yuan per set). There is also a scenic coffee shop within the area. Overall, the facilities are quite complete and suitable for tourists of all ages.
Practical Tips
- 1The ultraviolet radiation is very strong at the mountaintop, so be sure to apply sunscreen, wear a hat, and sunglasses.
- 2Shoes must be removed before entering the Buddha hall area. Dress appropriately, avoiding short skirts or off-the-shoulder tops. Please remain quiet and refrain from touching Buddha statues or making loud noises.
- 3We recommend purchasing the combined ticket for the Gold Pagoda and Silver Pagoda (approximately 75 yuan), as it is more cost-effective than purchasing them separately.
