The Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum is the joint tomb of Zhu Yuanzhang, the founding emperor of the Ming Dynasty, and Empress Ma. Located in the Zhongshan Scenic Area of Xuanwu District, Nanjing, it pioneered the "front-facing, rear-round" layout for imperial tombs, directly influencing the construction of imperial tombs for over 500 years during the Ming and Qing dynasties. It is hailed as the "First Imperial Mausoleum of the Ming and Qing Dynasties" and was listed as a World Heritage Site in 2003. Recommended visit time: 3-5 hours. Best seasons to visit: spring (February-April, plum blossoms in full bloom), autumn (November, the "most beautiful 600 meters" of the Sacred Way in autumn colors), and winter (red walls and white snow).
Take Nanjing Metro Line 2 to Muxuyuan Station. Exit from Exit 1 and walk for about 5-10 minutes to reach Gate 3 of Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum. This is the most convenient public transportation option. Alternatively, take bus routes 20 or 315 to the "Ming Xiaoling" stop. If driving, navigate to "Ming Xiaoling Gate 1" or "Ming Xiaoling Parking Lot." Nearby parking options include Meihuagu Parking Lot and Zixia Lake Parking Lot. Official sightseeing buses can take you to all main entrances; please be sure to choose authorized vehicles. It is recommended to enter through Gate 3 and visit the following route in sequence: Yanque Lake → Changsheng Deer Park (where you can feed the deer) → Stone Elephant Road → Wengzhong Road → Jinshui Bridge → Wenwu Fangmen → Xiaoling Hall → Fangcheng Minglou → Baoding (treasure mound). Exit through Gate 5. This route avoids backtracking.
The pedestrian paths within the scenic area are smooth, and the main tour routes are primarily gentle walkways, suitable for visitors of all ages. Multiple restrooms are available within the scenic area, distributed near major attractions, and are clearly marked. Gift shops are located near the scenic area's exits and at the Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum Museum's cultural and creative products section, selling unique cultural and creative products such as the guardian beast series of the Sacred Way Stone Elephant Path, Ming Dynasty culture books, and Yuhua tea. Snack shops offering hot drinks and light meals are located near the Changsheng Deer Park. Visitor service centers are located at each ticket gate, where maps and information can be obtained.
