Niushou Mountain

Niushou Mountain is one of the four famous scenic spots in Nanjing, named for its twin peaks resembling ox horns. The core attraction, the Buddha Palace, cost 4 billion yuan to build. Above ground, the "Zen Grand View" features a 9-meter-tall white jade reclining Buddha, while the five-story underground Thousand Buddha Hall is resplendent in gold and enshrines the Buddha's skull relic. A visit takes approximately 3-4 hours. The best seasons are March to May (springtime Niushou, when cherry blossoms and peach blossoms are in full bloom) and September to November (autumn, when the air is crisp and the ginkgo leaves are golden). The best times of day are 8:30-10:00 AM (fewer crowds, better lighting) or after 3:00 PM (avoiding tour groups).

Subway + Bus (East Gate): Take Subway Line 1 to "Tianlong Temple" Station, then transfer to bus 712 or 755 to "Niushou Mountain Scenic Area" Station; or take Subway Line S1 (Airport Line) to "Hohai University·Focheng West Road" Station, then transfer to bus 754; or take Subway Line 3 to "Tianyuan West Road" Station, then transfer to bus G70 directly to the East Gate of the scenic area. Subway + Bus (West Gate): Take Subway Line S3 to "Jiaxi" Station, then take a taxi (approximately 15 RMB) to the West Gate. Taxi/Ride-hailing: It is recommended to directly search for "Niushou Mountain West Gate," as the West Gate is closer to the Buddha Palace, and taxis can drop you off at the entrance. A taxi ride from the city center takes approximately 50 minutes. There is a direct shuttle bus from Lukou Airport, taking about 40 minutes. In-Scenic Area Transportation: A sightseeing bus ticket is a must, 20 RMB per person (unlimited rides on the same day), which can significantly save energy. Recommended Route: Enter the park from the East Gate → Take the park shuttle bus → Buddha's Peak Temple → Buddha's Peak Pagoda (climb up for a panoramic view) → Buddha's Peak Palace (first visit the Zen Realm Grand View, then go down to the underground palace) → Take photos at the Mirror Pool → Return trip

The scenic area has relatively complete facilities. The ascent route features a combination of escalators and stairs, making the climb to the top relatively easy. The Buddha Tower has nine floors, requiring visitors to walk up and down stairs. Restrooms are available at every attraction, including inside the underground palace. Dining options are plentiful; there are snack stalls outside the Buddha Tower, and at the exit of the underground palace, there is a vegetarian buffet (68 yuan/person), a cake shop, and a coffee shop; chain brands such as Starbucks and Häagen-Dazs are also located within the scenic area. Souvenir shops are distributed throughout the Buddha Tower and at its exits, selling cultural and creative products and souvenirs. Accessible pathways are available at the east and west entrance ticket gates, the shuttle bus station, the Buddha Tower Temple, and the Buddha Tower Sacred Realm; an accessible elevator is also available inside the Buddha Tower. However, the front courtyard of the Buddha Tower has many steps, making it inconvenient for wheelchairs and strollers.
