Overview
Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon is located in Cili County, Zhangjiajie City, and is characterized by its canyon streams, cliff waterfalls, and the world-famous "Cloud Sky Crossing" glass bridge. The scenic area is open year-round, with the best time to visit being from April to October. April and May are vibrant with spring colors, while September and October offer beautiful autumn foliage. The core tour time is 3 to 5 hours; it is recommended to arrive before 8:00 AM to avoid tour group crowds.
How to Get There
1. From Zhangjiajie West Railway Station (High-Speed Rail Station): After exiting the station, turn right to reach the bus station. Take the scenic area shuttle bus to the Grand Canyon. The fare is 22 yuan per person, and the journey takes approximately 1 hour. The service runs continuously from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM. A taxi or ride-hailing service will also take about 1 hour and cost approximately 200-300 yuan.
2. From Zhangjiajie City (Central Bus Station): Take the scenic area bus directly to the Grand Canyon Visitor Center. The fare is 30 yuan per person, and the journey takes approximately 1 hour.
3. From Wulingyuan Scenic Area: If you are staying near the East Gate of Wulingyuan, you can take the scenic area bus from the bus station to the Grand Canyon Visitor Center. The fare is 12 yuan per person, and the journey is short. A taxi will cost approximately 40-50 yuan.
All methods require arriving at the Grand Canyon Visitor Center first, and then transferring to the free shuttle bus provided by the scenic area to reach the scenic area entrance (glass bridge entrance or canyon trail starting point). Our recommended itinerary is to first experience the glass bridge's "walk in the clouds," then descend along the approximately 3-kilometer canyon trail, passing Rainbow Waterfall along the way, and finally take a boat out of the scenic area from Shenquan Lake. This route will allow you to take in all the most beautiful scenery of the canyon.
What to Expect
The scenic area boasts well-developed infrastructure, with wooden boardwalks and steps paved throughout the tour route. Restrooms are located at regular intervals along the way for visitor convenience. Gift shops and snack stalls are situated at the entrance and throughout the scenic area, offering local souvenirs and convenient energy replenishment. The area also features a sightseeing elevator (saving energy and providing a direct view of the canyon from above) and a zipline, offering diverse tour options for visitors with different preferences.
Practical Tips
- There are other experiential activities within the scenic area; you can choose to experience them or purchase tickets on-site according to your needs.
- Drones must be registered in advance; some areas are no-fly zones.
- Wear comfortable shoes! The hike is long, so slip-resistant shoes are important.
- Prepare both raincoat and sunscreen, as the weather in the mountains changes quickly.
