No. 78 Baolun Road, Huizhou District, Huangshan City
Located in Huizhou District, Huangshan City, Anhui Province, Chengkan is an ancient village dating back to the Eastern Han Dynasty—a history spanning over 1,800 years. Acclaimed by the philosopher Zhu Xi as the "Number One Village South of the Yangtze," it is also a National 5A-rated tourist attraction. The village is laid out according to the principles of Bagua (Eight Trigrams) geomancy; its network of three main streets and ninety-nine alleys resembles a labyrinth, and it preserves more than 180 ancient structures dating from the Eastern Han through the Qing Dynasty. A visit typically takes 3 to 4 hours, though an in-depth tour could span one to two days. The best times to visit are spring and autumn (featuring vibrant blossoms from March to May and the colorful "Shaiqiu" harvest-drying displays from September to November), though the summer lotus ponds and winter fish-lantern parades offer their own unique charms.
High-speed rail (recommended): Upon arrival at Huangshan North Railway Station, you can take a taxi to Chengkan Scenic Area (approx. 20–25 minutes; fare: 40–60 RMB) or take Bus Huizhou Line 17 or Tourist Line 9 (approx. 30 minutes; fare: 2–5 RMB) directly to Chengkan Station. City shuttle: Take the dedicated Chengkan shuttle from Tunxi Passenger Transport Center (approx. 40 minutes; fare: 10 RMB/person; last bus at 17:30). Recommended itinerary: Enter via the South Gate and tour the sites in this order: Bagua Gate (cross the "Ping'an Kan" threshold to pray for safety) → Yongxing Lake (the heart of the ancient village, featuring reflections of white-walled, dark-tiled buildings) → Huanxiu Bridge → Luo Dongshu Ancestral Hall (renowned as the premier ancestral hall in the Jiangnan region and a masterpiece of Huizhou woodcarving) → Stroll through the "Ninety-Nine Alleys" → Exit via the North Gate.
The Chengkan Scenic Area is characterized primarily by bluestone-paved paths and narrow alleys; the ground is uneven and can be slippery in places, so wearing comfortable, non-slip flat shoes is recommended. Restrooms are available, and free hot water is provided at several locations, including the South Gate, the Yongxing Lake "Shaiqiu" (autumn harvest display) Square, and the North Gate ticket office. Parking lots are located at both the South and North Gates, and the scenic area offers amenities such as luggage storage and mobile phone charging. Small shops and farmhouse-style restaurants are found within the village, along with various unique guesthouses for accommodation. Tickets allow for multiple entries within a three-day period.

The Canton Tower, standing at 600 meters tall, is China's tallest tower and, when it opened in 2010, the world's tallest freestanding structure. Its unique twisted, lattice-like design, narrowing at the waist, resembles a slender woman. Highlights include the world's highest outdoor observation deck, a skydiving attraction, and a bubble cable car that encircles the top. The tower's LED lighting creates a breathtaking light show at night.

The Mutianyu section is one of the best-preserved parts of the Great Wall, featuring 23 watchtowers along its 5.4km stretch. Less crowded than Badaling, it offers stunning mountain views, cable car access, and a thrilling toboggan ride down. The wall here dates back to the Northern Qi Dynasty (550-577 AD) and was rebuilt during the Ming Dynasty.

The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, located near the city center, is a world-renowned conservation park dedicated to protecting and breeding endangered giant pandas in a naturalistic habitat.
