Overview
The Five Avenues, located in the central urban area of Tianjin, comprises five streets: Chongqing Road, Dali Road, Changde Road, Munan Road, and Machang Road. Boasting over 2,000 European-style buildings constructed in the 1920s and 30s, it is Tianjin's best-preserved "World Architecture Expo." The core area is open to the public free of charge and can be visited throughout the day, with a recommended visit time of half a day to a full day.
The weather is most pleasant in spring and autumn (March-May and September-November)—Dali Road is ablaze with crabapple blossoms in spring, while golden ginkgo leaves and the buildings create a picturesque scene in autumn.
How to Get There
Taking the subway is the most convenient option: Exit B of Xiaobailou Station on Line 1 and walk for about 5 minutes; alternatively, take Line 3 to Yingkoudao Station, Exit C3, and walk in the opposite direction to avoid tour groups. Several bus lines also provide direct access, such as sightseeing routes 2, 9, and 619. Public transportation is recommended as parking is limited, especially on weekends. When exploring the area, a combination of walking and shared bicycles is recommended—there are dedicated bike lanes and multiple return points, offering flexibility and convenience.
Recommended activities: Walk or cycle in the early morning, enjoying the tranquility amidst dappled sunlight; relax at cafes around Minyuan Square in the afternoon; and take a horse-drawn carriage ride in the evening with a guided tour to experience history. Key must-see attractions include Minyuan Square, Qingwangfu, and Gedalou.
What to Expect
The Five Avenues area is primarily composed of street blocks with a generally flat terrain, making it suitable for walking. The core area has been upgraded to a pedestrian street, connecting various sections into a slow-traffic system. The area is equipped with wheelchair ramps, accessible entrances and exits, and accessible restrooms. Wheelchair rental services are also available at the visitor center in Minyuan Square and at other key locations, ensuring convenience for visitors with mobility issues. Restrooms are located throughout the memorial halls and main streets, with clear signage. The area features numerous gift shops, cultural and creative stores, and cafes (such as Sancho Bookstore, which sells Five Avenues postcards and unique cultural and creative products), and dining options are available at key locations.

- You can easily explore the core area by renting shared bicycles or taking a sightseeing tricycle.
- Many of the buildings are still residential; please keep quiet and do not disturb the residents while visiting.
