Stone Forest

The Stone Forest in Yunnan is a World Natural Heritage site, boasting karst landforms dating back 270 million years and hailed as "the most wondrous sight under heaven." A visit of 4-6 hours is recommended. The best time to visit is from March to October, when the weather is mild and pleasant. You can rent Yi ethnic costumes for photos or hire an official guide to explain the geological and Sani cultural stories. The scenic area has upgraded its signage and services to include multiple languages, facilitating a more in-depth experience for foreign tourists.

Getting to the Stone Forest is convenient. From Kunming, the high-speed rail is the best option (Kunming South Station to Stone Forest West Station, approximately 18-24 minutes, fare around 18 yuan). From the station, take bus route 99 directly to the scenic area. Alternatively, you can take a tourist bus from Kunming East Bus Station (approximately 1.5 hours, fare around 30 yuan). Within the scenic area, it's recommended to purchase a 25 yuan electric cart for transportation. A suggested itinerary is to visit the Greater Stone Forest in the morning and the Lesser Stone Forest in the afternoon. If time permits, you can take a bus to Naigu Stone Forest to explore its black karst landscape.

The Stone Forest Scenic Area boasts well-developed facilities, with route signs in both Chinese and English, and railings at major viewing platforms. The area features multiple clean and tidy public restrooms and rest areas. A souvenir shop is located at the exit, offering Sani embroidery, ethnic clothing, and unique handicrafts. Luggage storage, dining, and official guided tours are available at the entrance. The overall environment is very visitor-friendly, allowing for a relaxed and enjoyable exploration.
