Bipenggou

Bipenggou, located in Li County, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, is known as the "beautiful backdrop of Mount Siguniang" and "Little Switzerland of Western Sichuan." It's a plateau ecological scenic area integrating snow-capped mountains, glaciers, forests, lakes, and waterfalls. The scenic area is beautiful in all seasons, but the best time to visit is from mid-October to early November in autumn, when the colorful forests and snow-capped mountains create a stunning contrast, making it an excellent time for photography. In winter (December to March), you can enjoy a snow-covered wonderland. It is recommended to allocate a full day for the visit, as the scenic area is quite deep and requires a combination of sightseeing bus and hiking to reach the core attractions.

Getting There

The most convenient way is to drive or hire a car from Chengdu via the Rongchang Expressway (G4217), exiting at Putou Town. The journey to the scenic area's visitor center takes approximately 2-3 hours. If taking public transportation, you can take a bus from Chengdu Chadianzi Bus Station to Li County (departure times are approximately 7:10, 8:10, 9:00, etc.). Upon arrival in Li County, transfer to a local minibus or shared taxi to the scenic area; the journey takes about 20 minutes and costs approximately 15-20 yuan per person. Tour Route: After entering the scenic area, you must take a sightseeing bus (approximately 40-50 minutes) to the Shanghaizi Service Center. From here, it is recommended to transfer to the scenic area's electric shuttle bus (divided into two sections: Shanghaizi-Panyang Lake and Panyang Lake-Yanzi Rock, each round trip costing 30 yuan). It is suggested to take the shuttle bus directly to the final stop, Yanzi Rock, for a close-up view of the snow-capped mountains, and then proceed to Panyang Lake (to view reflections and waterfalls), Zhuoma Beach, and Longwanghai. If you are in good physical condition, you can also choose to hike from Panyang Lake to Shanghaizi, traversing through the primeval forest.

What to Expect

The scenic area boasts relatively complete facilities, primarily employing a "sightseeing bus + walking trail" model. The main road is paved with asphalt, and smooth walking trails connect the core attractions, although some viewpoints require ascending or descending steps. Restrooms and simple shops are available along the way, but the main restaurant and hot water supply are only available at the Shanghaizi service area, and there is also a service station offering food at Yanziyan (Swallow Rock) on the mountaintop. The visitor center has a gift shop and clothing rental (for warmth). It is important to note that the scenic area's altitude ranges from 2000 to 5000 meters; walk slowly to prevent altitude sickness. The weather is also changeable with significant temperature differences between day and night, so be sure to prepare warm clothing and rain gear.
