Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Lake

Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Lake are a spectacular sight in the Dunhuang desert, with golden sand dunes embracing a perpetually flowing spring. Tickets allow multiple entries within three days of purchase. The best time to visit is between 5:30 and 7:00 AM to watch the sunrise, or after 4:30 PM to watch the sunset, avoiding the midday sun. Activities include camel riding (approximately 40 minutes, 100-130 RMB), climbing the wooden ladders along the sand dunes for panoramic views, sandboarding down the dunes, and also experiencing desert off-road vehicles and helicopter tours.

The scenic area is located 5 kilometers south of Dunhuang city. From the city center, you can take bus route 3 directly there (fare 2 yuan); a taxi takes about 15 minutes and costs 15-20 yuan; if driving, navigate to "Mingsha Mountain Crescent Lake Parking Lot 1" (parking fee 5 yuan/hour). It is recommended to enter the park from the middle gate, which is about a 10-minute walk from the main attractions. Recommended route: After entering the park, first visit Crescent Lake and take photos, then ride camels, climb the sand dunes before sunset for panoramic views, and finally slide down the sand dunes.

The scenic area's walking trails and sand dune climbing paths are equipped with wooden stairs and boardwalks for easy access. Restrooms are located in the parking lot, visitor center, mountain gate plaza, Xiaoquanwan plaza, and Yuequan Pavilion areas. There are no restrooms on the mountain itself, so it is recommended to use them beforehand. The visitor center offers luggage storage, wheelchair rental, and medical emergency services, and is equipped with a mother-and-baby room and accessible facilities. Gift shops and markets are located within the scenic area, selling cultural and creative products, local delicacies, and Dunhuang handicrafts.
