Yuhu Village, Baisha Township, Yulong Naxi Autonomous County, Lijiang City
Yuhu Village is located at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, about 18 kilometers from Lijiang Old Town, at an altitude of about 2,700 meters. In the Naxi language, it means "village at the foot of the snow mountain." The village is characterized by its stone houses built from glacial stones, arranged in a charming, staggered pattern with winding stone-paved lanes. It is known as the "First Village of the Snow Mountain" and a living fossil of traditional Naxi architecture. American explorer Joseph Rock lived here for 27 years, and his former residence is open to the public. A half-day to a full day is recommended for a visit. The best time to visit is from May to October, when the lakeside is lush and green, and the reflection of the snow-capped mountains is particularly magnificent.
There are four main ways to get to Yuhu Village from Lijiang Old Town: 1) By taxi (approximately 40 minutes, costing 40-60 yuan; navigate to "Yuhu Village Visitor Center"); 2) By scenic area shuttle bus from the Old Town (10 yuan per person, departs on the hour); 3) By bus route 17 from Xiangshan Market directly to Yuhu Village Square Station; 4) Private cars are not allowed in the core village area and must be parked in the visitor center parking lot (from there, it's about a 1.3 km walk or you can take a sightseeing bus into the village). Recommended itinerary: Yuhu Visitor Center → (sightseeing bus) Yuhu Cultural Center → Longevity Pavilion → (sightseeing bus) → Longnv Lake → Return to the Old Village. The last return bus departs around 7:00 PM; it is recommended to plan your return trip in advance.
Yuhu Village has completed a comprehensive infrastructure upgrade. The main pedestrian path is paved with stone slabs, with some sections slightly sloped; comfortable flat shoes or hiking boots are recommended. The village has eco-friendly parking lots, several standardized public restrooms, and a garbage transfer station, ensuring good sanitation. The village also features several guesthouses, cafes, and small supermarkets run by villagers, as well as a visitor center and a comprehensive cultural center. Horse riding experiences are available near Longnv Lake, operated by a managed horse ranch.

Baisha Old Town is the earliest settlement of the Naxi Kingdom and serves as a tranquil alternative to the bustling Lijiang Old Town. Located at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, this historic village offers a glimpse into authentic local life with its traditional cobblestone streets and well-preserved mud-brick houses. Visitors can explore the famous Baisha Murals, which depict a unique fusion of Taoist, Buddhist, and Tibetan art, and wander through quiet courtyards away from the commercial crowds. The town retains a slow-paced, rural atmosphere, making it perfect for those seeking cultural immersion and relaxation. It is an ideal spot for photography and enjoying a cup of local tea while watching the world go by.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Lijiang's 800-year-old old town is a maze of cobblestone streets, traditional Naxi wooden buildings, and flowing canals. Unlike most Chinese ancient towns, Lijiang was never walled and developed organically along its waterways. The Naxi minority culture, with its unique Dongba script and music, remains visible despite heavy tourism.

Rising to 5,596 meters, this sacred Naxi mountain dominates the Lijiang skyline. A cable car ascends to 4,506m - the highest cableway in China - where boardwalks offer views of glaciers and snow peaks. Lower slopes feature alpine meadows, the Impression Lijiang show, and Blue Moon Valley with its turquoise lakes. Oxygen is thin at the top - acclimatization is essential.
