Ayi River Tourist Scenic Area, Pengshui Miao and Tujia Autonomous County, Chongqing
Ayi River Scenic Area, located in Pengshui County, Chongqing, is a renowned rafting destination known for its tranquil canyons, clear streams, and Miao ethnic customs. A full day (approximately 5-7 hours) is recommended for the visit. The best time to visit is during the summer (June to September), when the water volume is abundant, making it the perfect opportunity to experience the thrill of "the best rafting in the world."
If you arrive by high-speed rail from out of town, the most convenient way is to take the scenic area shuttle bus from Pengshui West Station (high-speed rail station exit). The bus departs at 9:40 AM, and the one-way fare is 20 yuan per person. If you are coming from downtown Chongqing, you can also drive via the Baomao Expressway (G65) to Pengshui West Exit, then follow the signs for about 20 minutes to reach the scenic area. We recommend using Chinese map apps such as Gaode or Baidu Maps. Recommended Itinerary: After entering the scenic area, we suggest walking or taking the sightseeing elevator down to the valley floor and starting the upper half of the leisurely rafting trip. After a short rest at the midpoint, continue with the exciting lower half of the rafting trip, and finally take the scenic area shuttle bus back to the entrance at the end.
The scenic area boasts well-developed facilities. Most of the walking trails are stone steps built along the canyon, with some sections being quite steep and requiring a certain level of physical fitness. Restrooms and convenience stores are located near the core attractions. Since rafting will leave you completely soaked, it is recommended to use the changing rooms and showers at the starting and ending points. Gift shops and luggage storage are available at the scenic area entrances and visitor centers for your convenience.
