No. 338 Liuyuan Road, Gusu District, Suzhou City
Lingering Garden, one of China's four most famous gardens and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was first built in 1593. Its exquisite layout is renowned for its uniquely shaped rocks, the Five Peaks Immortal Hall with its nanmu wood hall, and the Hanbi Mountain Villa's water features. A visit of 1-3 hours is recommended. The best time to visit is early morning when the garden opens or after 3 pm when there are fewer people. The scenery is particularly beautiful in spring and autumn (April-May for flower viewing, September-November for osmanthus blossoms and maple leaves).
Transportation: Subway (most convenient): Take Suzhou Metro Line 2 to Shilu Station. Exit from Exit 1 and walk for about 10-15 minutes to reach the East Gate of Liuyuan Garden. Bus: Take bus routes Y1, 3, 6, or 933 to "Liuyuan Station" and walk for 2 minutes. Recommended Itinerary: **Highlights (1-2 hours):** Enter through the East Gate → Wufeng Xianguan (Nanmu Hall, a must-see) → Linquan Qishuo Hall → Guanyun Peak (the garden's treasure, the premier Taihu stone) → Hanbi Mountain House (waterside view) → Qulang Corridor → Xiaopenglai → Bonsai Garden → Exit through the East Gate. **In-Depth Tour (3 hours):** Enter through the North Gate (avoids the main entrance crowds) → Western Artificial Area (especially beautiful in the morning light and shadow) → Wenmuxiangxuan → Shuxiaoting (high view) → Hanbi Mountain House → Shilin Courtyard → Guanyun Peak → Wufeng Xianguan → Qulang Corridor → Exit through the South Gate.
Walking conditions within the Lingering Garden are generally good. The main routes are paved paths and cobblestone trails. Some areas in the artificial hills have many steps, so comfortable flat shoes are recommended. The garden provides accessible pathways and wheelchairs, but the paths in the artificial hill areas are narrow, so visiting during off-peak hours is advised. There are ample and clean restrooms throughout the garden, including accessible and third-gender restrooms for people with disabilities and families. A visitor information desk and electronic audio guides are available for rent, and bilingual (Chinese and English) guides can also be hired for a fee. A gift shop located behind the teahouse sells silk products and garden-themed souvenirs.
