Qingcheng Mountain

Mount Qingcheng, located in Dujiangyan City, Chengdu, is a famous Taoist mountain and a World Cultural Heritage site in China, renowned for its serene beauty. The scenic area is divided into the front and back mountains: the front mountain is home to Taoist historical sites such as Jianfu Palace, Tianshi Cave, and Shangqing Palace, boasting a rich cultural heritage; the back mountain features pristine natural scenery like Wulonggou and Feiquangou, ideal for hiking. A one-day visit is recommended, but a two-day trip is suggested for a more in-depth exploration. The best time to visit is spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November), when the weather is pleasant and the scenery is at its most beautiful.

Getting There

The most convenient way to get there from Chengdu is to take Metro Line 2 to Xipu Station, then transfer to the intercity train (Chengdu-Guanxian High-Speed ​​Railway) to Qingcheng Mountain Station, which takes about 30 minutes. After exiting the station, you can walk or take a sightseeing bus to the front of the mountain; to get to the back of the mountain, turn left at the high-speed rail station and take the scenic area shuttle bus (about 40 minutes).

What to Expect

The scenic area is mainly comprised of stone steps and walking trails. There are many mountain paths, some of which are quite steep, especially the steps on the back mountain, which are slippery; comfortable, non-slip athletic shoes are essential. The front mountain has well-developed facilities, including cable cars and boats; the back mountain is more undeveloped and involves longer hiking trails. Restrooms are scarce on the mountain, so it's recommended to use the facilities at the entrance beforehand. There are small shops and restaurants along the way selling snacks and simple meals (such as cold noodles and cured pork ribs), but prices are slightly high. Gift shops selling souvenirs and Taoist cultural products are located near the main Taoist temples.
